Encoding and Decoding

Encoding and Decoding

In media, producers encode messages and meanings which are later decoded by the consumer, which can be in many different ways. Encoding and Decoding demonstrates the relationship between producers and consumers. Depending on how the audience decodes the product, will determine the response from the audience. For example, Dove’s 'Campaign for Real Beauty' tried to encoded a meaningful and positive message, however some audiences decoded a different messages which elicited a negative response.
