The Bridge

The Bridge- Saga Noren

Being the main protagonist of the series, the character of Saga Noren is a unusual character who comes across as very cold and unsympathetic in comparison to her counterpart Martin Rohde. Saga seemingly struggles with social situations and fails to understand how people work on a social level; whilst she is very logical in her work, it's the opposite for her social interactions. Colleagues of hers refer to her as being odd, a characteristic the audience will find hard to miss. Her awkwardness in social situations led to characters around her also feeling awkward and in turn can make the audience feel uneasy. Whilst for most audiences, Martin will be the character of identification, due to him having a shown personal life, empathy and a more 'normal' character; all things Saga fails to have, even though she's the main character.

Looking at Crime Dramas such as Sherlock, and Luther, the main protagonist in the role of a detective, is genially impulsive, and doesn't necessarily follow the general standard practices found within the policing industry; whereas Saga does the opposite whilst still having her own unusual ideas- such as phoning the man in the car for questioning whilst he was thought to be in danger of a bomb exploding.

Her unusual personality could have like to the autism spectrum, with her struggling in social situations, not being able to empathise with people, and it could be argued she fails to recognise danger in the fact that she didn't let the ambulance through as 'no one was going to die'.
